Skippered Sailboat Charter

A skippered charter suits guests who would rather not handle the boat themselves and want to spend their holiday at sea with an experienced skipper.

The skipper is responsible for navigation and handling the boat within the agreed scope of service. The route and daily plan are set with weather, safety at sea and operational requirements in mind.

Who is a skippered charter for?

  • First-time sailing holidaymakers
  • Families and groups of friends heading out to sea
  • Guests who want to relax rather than run the boat
  • Anyone who wants to explore sea routes with a skipper

A bareboat charter is for experienced sailors who meet the charter requirements and want to take charge of the boat themselves.

The charterer's qualifications, sailing experience and boat-handling skills are assessed. Accepted certificates and experience requirements may vary with the boat and the applicable regulations.

Who is a bareboat charter for?

  • Sailors with experience handling sailboats
  • Those who want to make their own passage plan
  • People who can present the required certificates
  • Those ready to take responsibility for the boat and the passage

Frequently asked questions

Questions about Sailboat Charter

See all questions for more.

Should I choose a skippered or a bareboat charter?

If you have no experience handling a boat, or you don't want to run the boat during your holiday, a skippered charter may suit you. If you have the required qualifications and experience, you can consider a bareboat charter.

Do I need a licence to charter a sailboat?

The certificates and qualifications required depend on the type of charter, the boat, its flag and the applicable regulations. For a bareboat charter, certificates and experience must be verified in advance.

How are sailboat charter prices set?

Prices depend on the boat, the dates, the charter length, the season and the scope of service. Ask for a current quote for an exact price.

How many people can charter a sailboat?

The number of guests depends on the boat's licensed capacity, cabin layout and charter terms. Safir has three cabins and takes six guests.

What is included in a sailboat charter?

Inclusions vary by boat and contract. Besides use of the boat, the quote should list skipper, fuel, harbour fees, cleaning and other costs separately.

How far in advance should I book?

It depends on the season and availability. Booking early, especially in peak holiday periods, leaves more options open.

Can the route change during the charter?

Route changes depend on weather and sea conditions, safety, the boat, harbour facilities and the charter terms. Changes are agreed with the skipper and the parties involved.
