Where to Sail in Fethiye and Göcek

Short hops between islands and bays

With islands close together and sheltered bays, the Fethiye and Göcek gulf is one of the easiest areas to plan a sailboat charter. Daily distances can stay short, which also makes it a good choice for a first sailing holiday.

Safir is based in Fethiye, so this route is the natural starting point for week-long charters.

Popular Stops in the Area

These are example stops often chosen in the area. Which ones make the plan depends on the wind, sea state and the day's plan.

  • The Göcek islands and the Yassıca Islands
  • Sheltered bays on the north and west shores of Göcek gulf
  • Islands and bays inside Fethiye gulf
  • Around Gemiler Island

Anchoring and Overnight Stays

In many bays in the gulf you moor stern-to with a line ashore. In summer the popular bays fill up early, so finishing the day's sail in the early afternoon makes it easier to find a spot.

Not every bay is safe in every wind direction. The bay chosen for the night should be sheltered from the forecast wind.

Protected-Area Rules

Fethiye and Göcek lie within a Special Environmental Protection Area. Rules apply to waste and bilge water discharge, anchoring and some activities; along the Muğla coast boat waste is tracked with the Blue Card system.

Rules can change, so check the current regulations before sailing.

How to Build a Week-Long Plan

On a week-long charter the first and last days are usually short sails, leaving time for check-in, provisioning and the return. On the days in between you can explore different parts of the gulf and spend each night in a different bay.

The final plan is made with the skipper, or by your own judgement on a bareboat charter, based on the latest forecast.
